Highlife artiste, Okyeame Kwame, has disclosed that he once turned down an unexpected political proposal from Alan Kyerematen, the flagbearer of the Movement for Change.
Speaking in an interview, the hiplife veteran revealed that he was approached by Kyerematen’s team with an offer to serve as a running mate.
According to Okyeame Kwame, the proposal came as a surprise and left him deeply honoured. However, despite meeting all the outlined qualifications, he declined the offer due to personal reasons and apprehension about stepping into the political space.
“I take my hat off for the honourable. No one has said anything that has touched me as much as he did. I didn’t believe that I, Kwame Apau, was worthy of Alan Kyerematen’s running mate. And the beautiful aspect is how I qualified for all ten requirements needed to take that position. When I checked, I indeed was the only person who qualified,” he stated.
He further explained that the criteria for the role were rigorous, including possessing at least a master’s degree or legal background, maintaining a clean public image, being over 40 years old, married with children, and successfully running a business. Additional expectations included active involvement in philanthropy, strong public appeal, and a significant social media following exceeding one million.
After reviewing the conditions, the musician noted that he met every requirement, which made the offer even more significant. Nonetheless, he chose to step back, citing fear and personal conviction as key factors in his decision.
