The New Akim-Tafo District Police Command is investigating a tragic motor accident that claimed the life of a health professional at Ofori Panin Senior High School (OPASS) at Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region.

The victim, 36 years old has been identified as Edward Cann, who was a School Nurse at the institution.

According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 8, 2026, resulting in his death.

At about 1:30am on the fateful day, police said they received reports of a solo motor accident near the Lakeside washing bay at OPASS Junction and proceeded to the scene to find a male rider with severe injuries lying near his Royal motorbike with registration M-23-UE 424.

He was rushed to the New Akim-Tafo Government Hospital for emergency medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Mr. Cann was travelling from Kukurantumi toward OPASS Junction when the accident occurred.

“It is alleged that the rider failed to disengage the motorbike’s kickstand. While in motion, the stand struck the road surface, causing the rider to lose control and fall,” the police added.
