State Housing MD seeks Big Push support for Dedesua Green City project

The Managing Director of State Housing Company Limited, Mr John S. Bawah, has appealed to the government to channel Big Push funding into the horizontal infrastructure for the Green City Affordable Housing project in Dedesua, Ashanti Region.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Mr Bawah said government support for roads, drains and sewage works would help keep house costs down and protect the project’s price positioning for low- and middle-income buyers.

“When the Big Push supports us with the horizontal infrastructure, it will go a long way in maintaining our price positioning. If we have to bear those costs ourselves, the houses become more expensive for the people we want to serve,” he explained.

He added that the first phase of the Green City project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.

In response to the appeal, President John Dramani Mahama assured that the government would back State Housing Company to expand affordable housing across the country.

He said he would direct the Roads Minister to absorb the cost of roads and drains in the area under the Big Push programme.

“I will inform the roads minister so that we absorb all the roads and drains in this area under the Big Push program,” President Mahama said.

He warned that without such support, the cost of the infrastructure would have to be added to house prices, making them unaffordable for the target beneficiaries.

The Green City project in Dedesua is designed to deliver modern, environmentally friendly housing units with supporting utilities, as part of the government’s broader plan to reduce Ghana’s housing deficit.
