‘Dumsor’ will soon be a thing of the past – Bawumia

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwasi Kwarteng, has clarified that recent appointments to committees tasked with rebuilding the party, were a collective decision by the party, and not solely made by Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on Angel TV’s Anopa Morning Show hosted by Ohemaa Sakyiwaa on Monday, May 11, 2026, Mr. Kwarteng explained that the appointments were made by the NPP’s national council and national executive committee.

“I have seen some media outlets report that Dr. Bawumia appointed person A or person B to this committee. Before I came for this interview, I read the party’s statement on the appointments again. It is the national council and the national executive committee, so we can conclude that it is the party’s decision,” he stated.

He acknowledged that Dr. Bawumia, as a member of the national council, could be linked to the appointments, but stressed that the decision was not an individual one.

“Of course, Dr. Bawumia is a member of the national council, so one can attribute the appointment to him. However, for the purpose of education, it is the party’s decision, not an individual decision,” he added.

Mr. Kwarteng, who previously served as Spokesperson for the Ghana Education Service (GES) under the NPP administration, commended the party for the move, describing it as part of efforts to rebuild ahead of the next general elections.

“I will applaud them for the decision they have taken, given the explanation they provided, which is part of the party’s rebuilding process,” he said, adding that “We have a candidate to market for the 2028 general elections.”
