Nana Oye honoured for contributions to governance and human rights

Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, has been honoured with the Excellence in Governance Award at the 11th Annual Ghana Women of the Year Honours 2026 held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.

The event, organised by Glitz Africa, celebrated outstanding women whose contributions continue to impact national development in areas including governance, education, media, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and humanitarian service.

Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo received the award in recognition of her contributions to public service, governance, human rights advocacy, and women empowerment in Ghana.

The ceremony brought together policymakers, diplomats, business leaders, creatives, and development advocates from across the country and beyond.

Speaking after receiving the honour, Nana Oye delivered an emotional and reflective speech, paying tribute to the women who shaped her life and leadership journey.

“I stand before you on the shoulders of three great matriarchs in my life,” she said as she acknowledged the sacrifices, resilience, courage, and values of her mother and grandmothers.

She described leadership and governance as a continuous fight for justice and support for vulnerable people in society.

“For me, governance and leadership have been a quest for justice for the weak and marginalized, it is a passion and an innate desire to put smiles on faces and wipe away tears of despair.”- she stated.

Hon. Nana Oye also reflected on the personal sacrifices and challenges she has faced throughout her years in activism and public service, noting that despite rejection and betrayal, her dedication to national service remains strong.

She dedicated the award to women who have survived abuse and hardship, as well as girls who have remained in school because of advocacy efforts and support systems.

The Ghana Women of the Year Honours, now in its 11th edition, continues to recognise women making significant contributions to society and leadership across Ghana and Africa.

This year’s event also honoured renowned Ghanaian stateswoman Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while former Liberian President H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf received Special Recognition Honours for her contribution to leadership and governance in Africa.

The ceremony featured musical performances, tribute sessions, and special recognition for women whose leadership and service continue to inspire future generations.
