The Upper West Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of thirty-four suspects following a shooting incident in Funsi, Wa East District, linked to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute.
The shooting incident which occurred on the night of May 22, resulted in the death of three individuals at the Gbelonosi section of Funsi.
The deceased were identified as Fufulu Nandugu, aged 37, Yussif Samahan, aged 22, and Amadu Lukman, aged 20.
Police, however, deployed a reinforcement team led by Regional Commander DCOP Francis Yiriibaare to the community to support investigations and maintain law and order.
A preliminary investigations led to the retrieval of one shotgun, bow and arrows, gunpowder, spent cartridges, talisman-embedded smocks, and a medallion believed to be central to the chieftaincy tensions.
All suspects and exhibits have been conveyed to Wa to assist with further investigations, according to a police statement.
The Police Administration extended condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public of its commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.
Authorities also appealed to residents and stakeholders to remain calm, avoid acts of reprisal, and cooperate with the police by providing credible information.
Meanwhile, intensified patrols and other security measures have been deployed within the community to maintain peace and security.
