Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku has been officially ruled out of the FIFA 2026 World Cup due to an injury sustained in camp.
After media reports suggested he might miss the tournament, head coach Carlos Queiroz confirmed the news.
He announced Djiku’s setback during a press conference on Monday, June 1, ahead of the friendly match against Wales, stating that he has been replaced.
“Yeah, the game sometimes surprises. We have to make a decision and replace Djiku. And it doesn’t matter who the player that I called was, Djiku was replaced.
“And now we’re going to have the same group of centre backs in camp. And the names, you saw them play on the pitch. So, we’re ready. We’re ready to take off,” he said.
As a result, the former Fernabahçe player Djiku will miss Ghana’s campaign at the tournament, scheduled from June 11 to July 19.
