Several shops were destroyed by a fire outbreak at Accra Central, around the Mokola area opposite the Central Police Station, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Videos from the scene showed traders and residents in panic as they rushed to salvage their goods and belongings while the fire spread through the area.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were swiftly deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from extending to nearby structures.
A video released by the Service showed firefighters battling flames that continued to engulf parts of the affected area despite ongoing efforts to bring the situation under control.
Divisional Officer at the Public Relations Department at the GNFS Headquarters, ADO 1 Alex King Nartey at the scene described the situation as “very dire,” revealing that one firefighter sustained injuries while combating the blaze. He noted that although firefighters were working tirelessly to contain the fire, the operation was proving extremely challenging.
