Accra-based Angel 102.9 FM has secured radio broadcasting rights for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
The station obtained the rights to broadcast matches and provide commentary on the tournament after successfully acquiring a sub-license from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).
Management of the Akweteyman-Flatop-based radio station signed the necessary documents and made arrangements for the radio authorisation for the World Cup rights at the GBC in Accra.
This follows the GBC’s establishment of a National Broadcast Consortium for TV and radio broadcast rights for all matches, fulfilling the government’s commitment to ensure that Ghanaians have maximum access to the global tournament.
With this agreement, Angel 102.9 FM is expected to broadcast all 104 matches live with a special focus on Team Ghana to provide its cherished listeners with the best coverage.
The 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men’s football tournament, will be played across sixteen cities: eleven in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada.
This tournament will mark the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by three nations and the first to include 48 teams, an expansion from the previous format of 32 teams.
