The Government has confirmed that Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Dr Bossman Eric Asare, has tendered his resignation, effective July 31, 2026.
According to the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Dr Asare formally communicated his decision to President John Dramani Mahama in a letter, in which he indicated his intention to return to academia at the University of Ghana.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that the EC Deputy Chair expressed appreciation to the President and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve in the Electoral Commission during his tenure.
He added that Dr Asare’s resignation forms part of broader changes at the Commission, with government assuring that constitutional processes are already underway to ensure smooth succession and continuity in leadership.
The announcement brings clarity to earlier speculation regarding his status, with government confirming that his exit will take effect in July 2026 as stated in his letter.
