We begged Yvonne Nelson to join your movie, respect her — Pascal Amanfo tells Nana Akua Addo

Ghanaian filmmaker, Pascal Amanfo, has publicly challenged actress and fashion personality Nana Akua Addo over remarks she recently made concerning actress Yvonne Nelson’s involvement in a movie produced several years ago.

In a strongly worded social media statement, Amanfo first commended Nana Akua Addo for her remarkable contributions to Ghana’s entertainment and fashion industries, particularly her influence on celebrity red-carpet culture.

He applauded her achievements, stating that her efforts had helped elevate Ghana’s image and redefine celebrity fashion standards.

However, the filmmaker took issue with what he described as an inaccurate impression created by Nana Akua Addo while responding to critics online. According to him, she shared the poster of a film she produced and subtly suggested that she was responsible for bringing Yvonne Nelson on board.

Amanfo argued that such an assertion was misleading and failed to reflect the true circumstances surrounding the actress’s participation in the project.

He disclosed that at the time of production, Nana Akua Addo did not have either a personal or professional relationship with Yvonne Nelson and therefore could not directly secure her involvement.

According to the filmmaker, he and actor Prince David Osei personally appealed to Yvonne Nelson to join the cast.

“You wanted Yvonne Nelson to be part of that movie. You had no personal or professional access to Yvonne Nelson. Prince David and I begged, underline the word begged, Yvonne Nelson to be part of that movie,” he stated.

Amanfo further revealed that the actress initially declined the role because she was highly selective about the projects she associated herself with during that period.

He explained that additional efforts were made by members of the production team, including Shangai and production manager Edmund Kwasi, to convince her to participate.

Despite his criticism, Amanfo maintained that he respects Nana Akua Addo’s accomplishments and the brand she has built over the years. He also emphasized that Yvonne Nelson has established herself as a respected brand in her own right.

He concluded by urging mutual respect among industry players, stressing that while Nana Akua Addo’s success deserves recognition, equal respect should be accorded to those who paved the way before her.
