Veteran Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi has opened up about a painful experience of losing his daughter to cancer just days before her 21st birthday.
Speaking in an emotional interview, Mr. Amugi revealed that his daughter, who was a nurse, fought the illness for a long time, forcing the family to make frequent trips to the hospital.
“My daughter died of cancer nine days before she turned 21. She was a nurse. It got to a point where we had to go to the hospital almost every day. Sometimes, we would spend a whole week at the hospital before bringing her back home,” he recounted.
The celebrated actor explained that the situation became so demanding that he had to seek permission to be absent from some of his commitments to care for his daughter and accompany her for treatment.
According to him, he was pursuing a course at GIMPA at the time and was only two days away from completing the programme when tragedy struck.
“I sought permission because of my daughter’s condition. I needed to be around her and take her to the hospital. At the time, I was studying at GIMPA and had just two days left to complete my course,” he said.
Mr. Amugi further recalled receiving an urgent call to report to the 37 Military Hospital. Upon his arrival, he was confronted with the devastating reality that his daughter had passed away.
“I was called to come to 37 immediately. When I arrived, they brought my daughter’s body to me, and that was the worst moment of my life,” he stated.
