The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly has arrested a 45-year-old waakye seller, Muniratu Akangbe, and a 20-year-old, Rakibetu Asuman, for engaging in unauthorised waste dumping at the Dzorwolo Bus Stop in front of Perez Chapel.

According to the Assembly’s taskforce, the arrests took place at 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026. The two were made to sweep the entire bus stop.

Speaking to the media after the incident, the Municipal Environmental and Health Officer, Alhaji Shani Muntalla, said the Assembly had commenced a sanitation surveillance exercise to arrest people who intentionally dump refuse at unauthorized bus stops and other places within the municipality.

He added that while the suspects were to be processed for court, the Assembly also has the power to enforce its bye-laws by issuing spot fines.

“Upon reviewing the bye-laws, the Assembly charged the adult, Muniratu Akangbe, GH¢2,000, and Rakibetu Asuman, assumed to be a minor, GH¢1,000, considering her age and the fact that she is a servant to her madam,” he said.
