Sefwi Bekwai, Sunyani, other areas to get heaviest rain as storms move east, GMeT warns

The western part of Ghana will see the heaviest rain this Monday afternoon, June 29, 2026, before the storms move east through Tuesday night, June 30.

According to the Ghana Meteorlogical Agency (GMeT), areas like Sefwi Bekwai, Sunyani, and Saltpond will take the brunt of the rain first. Kumasi, Accra, Koforidua, and other parts of the middle belt will also get rain and thunder later in the day. The far north, around Navrongo and Yendi, will see lighter rain.

By evening, the rain will shift towards central and eastern areas, including Tamale, Kintampo, and Koforidua. The southwest and northwest will see less rain as the system moves on.

Most of Ghana should be dry by Tuesday night. Only the far north and parts of the coast around Axim and Saltpond may still get light rain.

Temperatures will stay warm across the country. The Coast and Forest areas will range from 22°C to 31°C. The transition zone will go up to 34°C, while the northern sector will be hottest at 24°C to 35°C.

GMet says rain clouds starting in the southeast will spread west during the day, bringing storms to the southwest first before pushing east. Northern Ghana will have some sunshine, but late storms cannot be ruled out.

The agency is urging residents to be careful, avoid flooded areas, and stay safe during thunderstorms.
