Members, branch executives and stakeholders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency have petitioned the Eastern Regional Secretariat to immediately remove Alhaji Sumaila Mahama as the Regional Representative supervising ongoing branch elections in the area.
In a petition addressed to the Regional Secretariat and Regional Elections Directorate in Koforidua, the group accused Alhaji Sumaila Mahama of conduct inconsistent with the party’s election guidelines and principles of free, fair and transparent internal democracy.
The petitioners cited five main grounds for demanding his removal.

They alleged flagrant violation and condoning of party election guidelines, including improper composition of election committees, participation of ineligible aspirants, and unauthorized addition of names to branch registers.
They also accused him of intimidation and threats against members who raised concerns.
“Party members who have exercised their constitutional right to petition or voice grievances have reportedly been subjected to verbal threats and acts of intimidation, intended to silence dissent,” the petition stated.

The group further alleged bias and partiality in the discharge of his supervisory duties, saying his actions have shown clear favour toward certain aspirants and factions.
They added that his conduct has failed to uphold the sanctity of the party’s internal democracy and has compromised trust in the credibility of the process.
The petitioners cited a specific incident on June 30, 2026 where elections could not be held at Lucky Day 1 and 2 branch because, according to them, Alhaji Sumaila Mahama refused to allow a contest for the Women Organizer position and instead sought to impose a candidate to go unopposed.

The group is calling on the Regional Secretariat and Elections Directorate to immediately recall and replace Alhaji Sumaila Mahama with a neutral and impartial representative.
They are also asking for the suspension of the current branch elections in Lower Manya Krobo pending the appointment of a new supervisor and a review of procedural irregularities.
Other demands include a formal inquiry into the conduct of the Regional Representative, and a reaffirmation to members that they can report grievances without fear of reprisal.
The petitioners said they remain committed to the NDC and to credible internal democracy, and stressed that immediate corrective action is needed to protect the integrity of the elections and party unity ahead of 2028.
Copies of the petition have been sent to the National Elections Directorate and the Constituency Elections Committee.
