The Sakumono District Police Command has recovered GH¢140,000 and an AK-47 assault rifle following a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Lashibi on Thursday, July 3, 2026.

According to a statement from the Accra Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, the victim was attacked by two armed men on a motorbike while driving home after work with a bag containing GH¢140,000.

The suspects allegedly fired at the victim’s vehicle, damaging the right rear tyre and front windscreen, before making away with the cash.

Police said the victim fought back during the escape. As the suspects tried to flee, the complainant fired at them.

One of the suspects was shot dead at the scene, while the other escaped on foot, abandoning the bag with the GH¢140,000. The money was subsequently recovered. The victim did not sustain any injuries.

A search on the deceased suspect led to the retrieval of an AK-47 assault rifle, two magazines with 55 rounds of live ammunition, 11 additional rounds, GH¢3,000 in cash, a Samsung mobile phone, and an ID card bearing the name Innocent Elemuwa Akachukwu, aged 46. Police also recovered five AK-47 spent shells and two pistol spent shells from the scene.
