Ghanaian artist Sharon Dede Padi reportedly dies at age 50

Renowned Ghanaian visual artist, poet, and Guinness World Record holder Sharon Dede Padi, popularly known as Padiki, has reportedly died at the age of 50.

According to reports, Padiki passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

Padiki made history as the first and official Guinness World Record holder for the Largest Leaf Print Painting in the world. Her record-breaking artwork celebrated Ghana’s culture, nature, and creativity and earned her recognition both locally and internationally.

Beyond her visual art, Padiki was also a respected poet whose work explored identity, heritage, and the Ghanaian experience. Over the years, she became a leading voice in Ghana’s contemporary art scene, mentoring young creatives and using art as a tool for storytelling and social commentary.

News of her passing has drawn tributes from fellow artists, cultural institutions, and fans who describe her as a trailblazer who put Ghanaian art on the global map.

Her reported passing marks a great loss to Ghana’s creative community.
