The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has welcomed the constitution and swearing-in of a new Board for the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).
He said it shows the importance of parliamentary oversight in ensuring compliance with the law.
In a statement, the MP recalled that on June 14, 2026, he raised concerns about the composition of the previous GTA Board and whether it complied with the Tourism Act, 2011 (Act 817). He noted that a new Board has since been constituted and sworn in on July 7.
Mr. Awuku clarified that his intervention was not targeted at any individual. “My concern was never about any individual. It was about ensuring that the law was respected and that the Ghana Tourism Authority was properly constituted,” he stated.
The MP added that the development highlights why oversight matters in governance. “When legitimate concerns are raised about the legality of a public appointment, they should be examined and where necessary, corrected,” he said.
Mr. Awuku said he welcomes the action taken by authorities to reconstitute the Board. “There is nothing wrong with correcting an error. What matters is that the law is ultimately respected,” he noted.
He further pledged to continue raising such matters whenever necessary in the national interest.
“I will continue to raise such matters whenever necessary and to discharge my responsibilities in the national interest. Accountability is not obstruction. It is a constitutional duty,” the MP added.
