The family of late Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has officially marked the first anniversary of the musician’s passing, confirming the location of his burial site and bringing months of public speculation to an end.
During the one-year memorial ceremony, family members performed traditional rites at Daddy Lumba’s gravesite in honour of the legendary musician.
A video from the event, which has since gone viral on social media, showed relatives, including former family elder Abusuapeni Tupac, pouring libation as part of the customary remembrance ceremony.
Addressing mourners, the family disclosed that Daddy Lumba was buried on a parcel of land he personally selected before his death. They explained that the burial site is located near, but not within, his East Legon residence in Accra.
The memorial also featured an important traditional ceremony for Daddy Lumba’s second wife, Odo Broni, who was officially ushered out of widowhood after completing the customary one-year mourning period. Under Ghanaian tradition, the rite signifies the end of a widow’s mourning obligations.
As part of the ceremony, the family announced the appointment of Daddy Lumba’s cousin, Ebenezer Fosu, as the interim representative of the late music icon.
According to the family, the appointment is temporary while consultations continue to determine the rightful successor who will officially carry on Daddy Lumba’s family responsibilities and legacy. Until then, Ebenezer Fosu will serve in the role.
The confirmation of Daddy Lumba’s final resting place has answered one of the biggest questions surrounding the late highlife legend since his death. For months, many fans and members of the public had speculated about where the celebrated musician had been buried.
