The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, has supported the presentation of an additional 2,000 laptops to the University of Ghana to strengthen the implementation of the Government’s One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).
The latest consignment brings the total number of laptops supplied to the University to 2,500.
At the presentation ceremony held at the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, described the initiative as a strategic investment in Ghana’s digital future, noting that the One Million Coders Programme will equip one million Ghanaians with in-demand digital skills to enhance employability, drive innovation and support national development.
The Administrator of GIFEC, Mr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, joined the Minister in presenting the laptops and reaffirmed GIFEC’s commitment to expanding access to digital skills training across the country.
As a key implementing agency, GIFEC is supporting the programme by providing its Regional ICT Centres and Community Information Centres as training hubs, ensuring that beneficiaries in all parts of Ghana have access to quality digital training.
The presentation underscores Government’s commitment to building an inclusive digital economy by equipping young people with the skills and tools needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
