The Ghana National Fire Service has safely relocated a bee swarm from Vakpo Secondary Technical School in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region following attacks on a student and a teaching staff member.
The affected student and teacher, who were stung, have reportedly been treated and discharged.
According to the GNFS, the swarm had nested in the ceiling of the girls’ dormitory for several years.
It indicated they were often disturbed during weeding activities around the dormitory, which triggered the attack.
However, personnel from the Anfoega Fire Station responded to the incident and carried out the relocation to remove the threat to students and staff.
The Service used the opportunity to advise school authorities to report bee infestations early and further restrict access to affected areas.
It emphasised and warned school authorities to “avoid disturbing swarms to prevent future attacks.”
