The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results for candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 29, 2026, WAEC said the results of candidates from schools will be dispatched to their respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education.
Candidates can also access their results online via the Council’s official website at www.waecgh.org.
A total of 620,243 candidates sat for the examination. This comprised 304,415 males and 315,828 females from 20,789 participating schools.
According to WAEC, 136 candidates had visual impairment, 282 had hearing assessment needs, and 510 candidates had other test accommodation needs.
The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres across the country. Out of the total number, 3,601 candidates were absent.
Following investigations into irregularities detected during the conduct and marking of scripts, the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE, 2026, held on Tuesday, July 21, approved the following sanctions: Cancellation of Subject Results of 496 candidates; Cancellation of Entire Results of 105 candidates; Withholding of Subject Results of 119 candidates; and Withholding of Entire Results of 48 candidates.
In addition, the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld for further scrutiny. WAEC said the withheld results may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations by August 31.
WAEC urged candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld to visit https://irreg.waecgh.org and click on the `withheld/cancelled` button on the home page. The page will display the reasons for withholding or cancelling the results. For withheld results, candidates will also receive information on the next line of action. Heads of schools and proprietors can use their results listing logins to check the status of withheld results for their candidates.
The Council also cautioned the public to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee. “Candidates are to note that WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated,” the statement said.
WAEC expressed appreciation to stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Security Agencies, Heads of Schools, Supervisors, Invigilators and Examiners, for supporting the successful conduct of the examination and release of results.
