Ghanaian gospel musician, Jemima Annor Yeboah, also known as Jayana, has weighed in on the growing conversation surrounding cosmetic procedures such as Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) among Christians.
She stressed that the intention behind such decisions matters more than physical appearance.
According to Jayana, the Christian community has become divided on several issues, with different groups holding varying beliefs about God and Christianity.
“The Christian fraternity has been divided. Some believe in God and say they are Christians, while others don’t believe in God but also claim to be Christians. There are so many things happening in the Christian world,” she said.
Speaking about cosmetic procedures, including BBL, Jayana acknowledged the role of medical professionals and said she believes their abilities are ultimately a gift from God.
“I believe that God gave surgeons in Ghana the wisdom to do what they do. So, whatever they are doing, the intention behind it is what personally matters to me. If you’re doing it for a reasonable cause, then it’s okay. But if you’re doing it because you want to attract men, then for me, I feel it’s a no. However, if you’re doing it for health reasons, it’s fine,” she added.
Jayana further questioned whether a person’s physical appearance, including their body shape or cosmetic enhancements such as BBL, would matter on Judgment Day.
“On Judgment Day, the body will have decayed, so how will it be judged? We all don’t know when Judgment Day will come. When I first heard about Judgment Day, I was in Sunday school, and until now, I still don’t know when it will come, but we’re still waiting,” she said.
She noted that, in her understanding of the Bible, it is the spirit that will ultimately face judgment rather than a person’s physical appearance.
“The Bible says that when the trumpet blows, it’s the spirit that will be judged, not your body, your bottom, or even your teeth whitening. Even the clothes you wear won’t be sent to heaven,” Jayana affirmed.
