Akufo-Addo intended to bring back ‘Dumsor’ – Twum Barimah

Private Legal Practitioner and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, Twum Barimah, says former president Akufo-Addo and his government purposely intended to reinstate ‘Dumsor’ on Ghana.

Twum Barimah claimed in an interview with Saddick Adams on Angel Morning Show (AMS) that during a technical maintenance in October 2024, Ghana’s immediate former president, Akufo-Addo, gave the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO), which is in charge of delivering gas from Nigeria to Ghana, instructions to stop the maintenance until January 2025.

Twum Barimah pointed out that one of Akufo-Addo’s justifications for delaying the repair until January, 20, 2025 was that, if it were done, the gas-using machinery would not be able to operate, which would lead to ‘Dumsor’.

Twum Barimah says the Akufo-Addo administration told the WAPCO team that the additional rationale for moving the date to January 20, 2025, is that it would give the immediate past president, Akufo-Addo, more time to buy enough fuel to replace machinery that runs on crude oil.

The reason for this is that, crude oil would be used in place of gas if there was no gas supply from Nigeria to Ghana until maintenance was completed, which takes around a month.

However, Lawyer Twum Barimah disclosed that, it has been discovered by the newly established power transition team that, to their utter surprise, the fuel that was meant in replacement of gas have not been imported, hence, “there’s no fuel,” he said.

He added that, former president Akufo-Addo’s act was a result of mere wickedness towards Ghanaians.
