President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of the Volta Region of his commitment to completing the Eastern Corridor road and other abandoned infrastructure projects in the area.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the Christian Ecumenical Council of Churches from the Volta Region at the presidency on 22nd January 2025, some church leaders highlighted the poor state of roads in the region, which they said has persisted for years.

According to the president of HO Area Ministers Association, Apostle Dr. Joseph Janto, the road from Ho to Sogakope, which was constructed some years ago, is now riddled with potholes.

He also pointed out that some roads linking the Volta and Oti Regions are in deplorable condition, appealing to the president to address these challenges during his tenure.

He acknowledged that President Mahama is already aware of these issues but emphasized the need to remind him of the urgency.

Meanwhile, President Mahama criticized the previous administration for neglecting critical development projects and pledged to ensure that abandoned roads are completed.

He explained that road infrastructure will be a key focus of his administration, stating that improving roads is a top priority for Ghanaians, as observed during his campaign tours.

He added that his primary goal is to finish the Eastern Corridor road, which serves as a major artery carrying heavy traffic along the eastern border and facilitating the transport of food products from the North Eastern part of the country through the Volta Region to Accra.

President Mahama also assured residents that he would prioritize the Ho-Denu road, which connects to Togo, as well as the Juapong-Ho road.
