D-levy should not be compared to E-levy-Divine Nkrumah

The Director of Operations for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, has asserted that the Gh¢1 levy imposed on petroleum products otherwise known as the ‘D-Levy D-Levy’, could not be likened to the Electronic Levy (E-levy) introduced under the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, he expressed his enthusiasm for the Gh¢ tax set to commence on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Mr. Nkrumah highlighted its significance and the potential implications of the tax.

Mr. Nkrumah recounted a concerning incident in which a minister secured a tax through debt to facilitate a loan but failed to settle it before retiring.

He underscored that he would not oppose the D-Levy if it is indeed allocated to the energy sector, as has been suggested.

“D-Levy is a symbolic tax and a nomenclature with a name and not just the usual taxes we know.

“I agree with the D-Levy initiative and subscribe to it if only the Government is sure about supporting the energy sector with it.

“Ursla collateralised a tax for a loan in 2035 but could not cover the cost before going on pension.”
