Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu has announced that Cabinet has approved the absorption of 6,200 teachers who have not received salaries for some number of months.
At a press briefing held in Accra on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, he explained that the decision was made following a petition from the affected teachers who had appealed to the Ministry of Education over their prolonged unpaid services.
“A few weeks ago, myself and Chief Director received a petition from some teachers who are unhappy with the government over their unending work, they worked for some number of months without pay.
“I am happy to announce that Cabinet has given approval for the 6,200 teachers to be absorbed, we will begin the process in due course,” he stated.
Mr. Iddrisu further revealed that an amount of GH¢1.1Billion has been allocated by cabinet through the Finance Minister, fot the absorption of unpaid health workers and teachers.
“So those 6,200 teachers, I think I can speak for both Ministries in this matter.
“Cabinet gave the Ministry of Finance approval to file budget and spend about GH¢1.1Billion to absorb a category of health workers and teachers, the process will start soon and therefore no more picketing,” he said.
