Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda Constituency, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has responded to a recent demonstration staged against him by a group of individuals in the area.

The protesters, led by the Krontihene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyere II, criticized the MP’s action, relating to his stance on illegal mining (galamsey) in the constituency.

However, in a release issued Monday, November 3, 2025, Mr. Acquah stated that as a representative of the people of Akyem Oda, he remains committed to fighting against illegal mining activities.

He explained that when he exposed the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Solomon Brako Kusi, for facilitating galamsey activities in Akyem Oda, he was merely doing his job and did not expect condemnation from the Krontihene for “standing up for what is right.”

According to him, he was accused of sabotaging the MCE instead of being called for a thorough investigation.

Moving forward, the MP vowed to “lay bare his findings and demand answers from all stakeholders” regarding the legality of galamsey operations in the area, pushing for operators to pay fines and cease environmental destruction.

He further urged citizens of Akyem Oda, including traditional leaders, to join him in combating illegal mining, emphasizing the importance of working together with traditional institutions and chiefs towards a better future for the constituency.

Mr. Acquah also called for a focus on addressing the menace of galamsey without diversion of attention by influential personalities, including political supporters.
