Black Stars midfielder Francis Abu has successfully undergone surgery at the Toyota Memorial Hospital, Japan, after sustaining fractures to two of his bones.

Abu’s successful surgery was carried out through the efforts of Black Stars head of medical, Dr. Prince Pambo, his colleagues from Toulouse FC, and the surgical team in Japan.

In a statement issued by the Communications Department of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Abu’s acute phase of rehabilitation has commenced.

Following this, the GFA, together with the management and technical team of the Black Stars, has agreed to let one physiotherapist stay with the player.

“To help him with his intensive physiotherapy sessions during this acute phase of his rehabilitation,” it stated.

The statement indicated that there are plans to appoint a senior member of the technical team to accompany the player to his home base in France after he is discharged from the hospital.

The GFA, the statement stressed, was thankful to everyone who supported them during the difficult period surrounding the surgery.

“We are particularly grateful to the Black Stars management, and the technical team for their support during these last few days and will continue to count on their support during the rehabilitation process in our quest to ensure that the player returns to full fitness.”

The midfielder sustained the injury during Ghana’s defeat to Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup on Friday, November 14, 2025.
