New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Damongo,  Samuel Abu Jinapor has slammed the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration for failing to deliver on its campaign promises.

He said the economy is suffering while “the data looks good on paper.”

According to him, Ghanaians are expecting more from the government because of its campaign promises, but it has failed to translate these promises into action.

Contributing to the debate on the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, Mr. Jinapor argued that the government’s overwhelming electoral mandate was won on two clear commitments – reducing the cost of living and doing business and creating “hundreds of thousands of jobs” for unemployed Ghanaians.

However, nearly a year after assuming office, Mr. Jinapor claims there are no signs of these promises being materialized.

He questioned the John Mahama-led administration’s claim that its 24-hour economy has entered full implementation, stating there is no evidence of the promised three-shift system.

“The people are suffering while the data looks good on paper,” Mr. Jinapor said, adding that the government’s priorities are misplaced.

He cited the allocation of US$1.2 billion for new military aircraft and a ship, questioning why the government is prioritizing this over the welfare of traders, farmers, nurses, and teachers.

Mr. Jinapor also criticized the government’s expansion of appointments, saying it has resulted in a 50% increase in the budgetary allocation for the Office of the President.

He cautioned that such decisions pose major fiscal risks for the economy.

He further advised the Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson and the Bank of Ghana to infuse cash into the economy, support productive sectors, and restore the momentum needed to make the budget meaningful for ordinary Ghanaians.
