The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has commissioned four new patrol boats for the Marine Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Tema.

The move is aimed at enhancing maritime security and protecting the nation’s interests.

According to the minister, the commissioning ceremony marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to transform Ghana’s security landscape through innovative initiatives, inclusivity, and community engagement.

In his speech, the Minister underscored the importance of blue economy in Ghana’s national development strategy, highlighting its potential for sustainable economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction.

“The Ghana Marine Police Unit plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order in our maritime domain, preventing piracy, and protecting our marine resources.

“These new patrol boats will undoubtedly enhance the unit’s operational capacity, enabling them to effectively patrol our waters, respond to emergencies, and prevent maritime crimes,’ he stated at the commissioning on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

He explained that the patrol boats will be used for surveillance, patrolling, and rescue operations, and will enable the Marine Police personnel to quickly respond to distress calls, prevent piracy and smuggling, and protect the country’s marine resources from exploitation.
