The Office of Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has strongly refuted media reports suggesting that he is seeking an audience with President John Dramani Mahama over the fate of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

In a rejoinder issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Office described the publication by the Herald Newspaper and subsequently carried by other outlets as “utterly false” and “a total fabrication.”

“The Office wishes to state emphatically that this publication is utterly false. It is a total fabrication by the supposed source,” the statement signed by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reads.

The rejoinder clarified that Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated nor made any request, directly or indirectly, to President Mahama or his associates regarding Ofori-Atta’s safe passage.

“Nana Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated such a consideration nor expressly or impliedly made any such request or representation to President John Dramani Mahama, his agent(s) or assign(s),” the Office highlighted.

The Office further acknowledged that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s situation is of personal concern, given his role as Finance Minister during Akufo-Addo’s administration and his family ties.

The former President underscored that his concern does not extend to interfering with the rule of law.

“It is true that the fate of Mr. Ofori-Atta is of considerable concern to the Former President because apart from Mr. Ofori-Atta being his cousin, more importantly, he was the Minister for Finance in both the governments of his mandate. But that concern does not extend to wanting to interfere with the rule of law,” the statement noted.

The Office reaffirmed Akufo-Addo’s commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, insisting that his fidelity to these values “has never been in question.”

The Office demanded that all media outlets that carried the initial report reproduce the clarification in line with the former President’s rights.

“Hopefully this sets the records straight on this matter,” the statement said.
