The CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi has said the Tema Export Processing Zone is now fully occupied, prompting the development of a new industrial enclave at Afienya

According to Dr. Awusi, the Afienya Export Processing Zone is being developed strategically near the Tema Port to provide serviced industrial land and support Ghana’s export-led industrial growth.

Speaking at the commissioning of the world’s largest Calcined Clay plant at the Free Zones Enclave in Tema on Thursday, March 5, 2026, she said the enclave will be the country’s first plug-and-play export processing facility, offering ready-to-use infrastructure that allows investors to set up and begin operations quickly.

“This development will enhance investor confidence, accelerate job creation, and boost exports,” Dr. Awusi added.

The announcement coincided with the commissioning of the world’s largest calcined clay plant at the Tema Free Zones Enclave, a landmark project that positions Ghana as a leader in sustainable and environmentally responsible cement production.

Dr. Awusi described the event as a celebration of “bold vision, innovation, and confidence in Ghana’s industrial future.”

She noted that the Tema Export Processing Zone, which accommodates both free zone and non-free zone enterprises, has enabled companies like CBI Limited to operate successfully within the enclave.

By establishing this state-of-the-art facility, CBI Limited has demonstrated confidence in the government’s enabling environment for investors.

She stated that, the company exemplifies the type of high-impact, sustainable, and innovative investment the Free Zones program aims to attract, further strengthening Tema’s reputation as a premier industrial hub in West Africa.
