The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has reportedly identified the collapsed school building in Accra New Town as an abandoned Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) project.
According to Joy News’ Adobea Asare, the report emerged during interactions with officials of the organization when Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang visited the site on Monday, March 30, 2026.
The officials reportedly told the Vice President that the collapsed facility, belonging to the Accra New Town Experimental Basic School, began in 2012 as a GETFund project.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reportedly showed signs of disappointment upon learning that the state had funded the facility.
However, details about why the facility was abandoned remain limited and unclear.
According to the emergency response team, three individuals succumbed to their injuries, while twenty others sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.
