Ghanaians haven’t experienced load-shedding since 2025 – Energy Minister

Energy Minister, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has revealed that Ghana has not experienced load shedding from January 2025 to date.

He credits the stability to reforms in fuel supply and payments to Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

Speaking during a working tour of key electricity infrastructure projects in Kumasi, the minister inspected ongoing transformer upgrade and replacement works, as well as other critical energy projects aimed at improving power supply and reliability in the Ashanti Region.

Dr Jinapor stated that stabilising power across the country has been a key priority since the NDC government assumed office.

“From January to December 2024, there has not been a month we had load shedding but when we assumed office it took us three months to completely eradicate the challenge,” he said.

The minister explained that the main challenges beforehand were fuel shortages and unpaid debts to IPPs, some of whom had cut power supply before the current administration took over.

“We have to do a lot of reforms so we can generate revenue and pay our IPPs. You must first generate the power before you distribute it,” he noted.
