Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, has taken a swipe at New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Miracles Aboagye over claims regarding the number of workers at the Presidency under the current President John Dramani Mahama administration.
In a Facebook post reacting to comments made by Mr. Aboagye, Mr. Kwakye-Ofosu described the NPP communicator as “an itinerant propagandist” and accused him of moving from one propaganda narrative to another.
“You are just an itinerant propagandist hopping from one lame propaganda to the other,” Mr. Kwakye-Ofosu stated.
According to the minister, there are currently 233 political appointees at the Presidency and 575 civil servants who have been seconded to the Presidency, stressing that the civil servants were not appointed by President Mahama.
Mr. Kwakye-Ofosu further indicated that under the previous NPP administration, there were higher numbers of both political appointees and civil servants at the Presidency.
“There are 233 political appointees at the presidency and 575 Civil Servants (Not appointed by President Mahama) who have been seconded to the Presidency. In 2022, you were one of 361 political appointees and 687 civil servants. In 2024, you were part of 332 political appointees at the Presidency. President Mahama has reduced the numbers which your government took to incredible and unprecedented heights,” he wrote.
The minister also stated that political appointees at the Presidency currently enjoy the same salaries and conditions of service that existed under the previous administration.
“The Political appointees at the Presidency have the same salaries and conditions as you had, which was presented to Parliament by President Akufo-Addo and approved on 6th JANUARY, 2025,” he added.
Mr. Kwakye-Ofosu made the remarks after Mr. Aboagye had accused him of stating that, the government only employed 30 workers at the Presidency, a figure that contradicts the 808 workers list disclosed by the President.
