We need comprehensive sanitation policy to mitigate recurring flooding – Minority Leader

Government communications team member Gabby Asumin has clarified that the GH¢350 million approved by the government following the recent floods is not intended for refuse collection or the desilting of gutters.

According to him, the allocation is meant to provide relief for flood victims and fund long-term flood mitigation projects aimed at reducing the impact of future flooding.

“A portion of the funds will be used to support affected residents with relief items such as food, clothing, utensils, and other essential supplies, while the remaining GH¢150 million will finance mitigation measures to lessen the severity of floods in the future,” he stated.

He noted that in the current digital age, accurate information is readily available to the public without necessarily relying on explanations from Members of Parliament.

“During the floods, the government allocated GH¢350 million. We never said the money would be used for refuse collection or clearing gutters. Part of it is for relief items for flood victims, while the remaining GH¢150 million is for mitigation projects to reduce the impact of future flooding,” Asumin said on Angel FM’s Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
