The body of a middle-aged man was found floating in the Owabi River at Kronum ‘New York’ in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The discovery was made by residents on the morning of Friday, July 24, 2026, as they headed to work.
Residents said the body was lying face down in the river near the banks. Attempts to identify him proved futile as he was not known in the community.
“We don’t know this man. He doesn’t live around here. When we saw the body this morning, everyone became scared,” a resident told Angel TV News reporter Bismark Mensah.
Another resident added: “This is the first time something like this is happening in our area. We are all living in fear now. We don’t know what happened to him.”
Personnel from the Suame District Police Command were notified of the situation and conveyed the body to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police say investigations are underway to establish the identity of the deceased and the cause of death.
They are also appealing to anyone with information about a missing person to come forward.
