A youth development-oriented organisation known as Pathways for Sustainable Employment for Women and Youth (PASEWAY) has intensified calls on the government to create an enabling environment for youth in the informal Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

PASEWAY over the years has trained a myriad of youth in technical skills within the hospitality and construction industries and equipping the youth with the right skillsets to keep them on top of critical job duties has been the organization’s topmost priority.

According to the project lead Eric Saforo, the main aim is to reduce the country’s unemployment rate by ensuring that disadvantaged young people successfully pursue gainful employment or self-employment.

While addressing the media at a policy action workshop in Accra, he indicated that the role of government in addressing unemployment is crucial as they provide the enabling environment for the youth to thrive.

Eric Saforo lauded the government for making tremendous strides at implementing free TVET but was quick to quiz those who could not sit in the classroom to benefit from the policy.

He maintained that there is a need for the government to operate as a nexus between policy and practice in addressing the socio-economic problems which are negatively impacting youth.

He likewise entreated the teeming youth to take advantage of the Free TVET policy by acquiring the requisite technical skills to enhance their future.
