The Attorney General (AG), Godfred Yeboah Dame, has told the public to anticipate a formal reaction to last Saturday’s comments by the overlord of the Dormaa Traditional Area regarding the prosecution of James Gyakye Quayson.

According to Mr Dame, who also is the Minister of Justice, it is imperative that he responds to comments which generally have “the tendency to subvert the administration of justice,” of which Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II’s is no exception.

“I am not going to comment on it right now. I will come up with a proper statement on the matter and it will be in respect of all comments generally which have the tendency to subvert the administration of justice.

“I think that it is very unhealthy for our democratic dispensation, and therefore, we must not countenance same. I will come up with a formal statement on it,” the AG told Journalists on Monday.

On Saturday, July 1, 2023, while delivering a speech at the 10th Commemorative lecture of late President John Evans Atta Mills at the Sunyani Technical University, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II appealed to the government to discontinue James Gyakye Quayson’s case through the filing of a nolle prosequi.

The chief, who is President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, was pessimistic that the prosecution of the re-elected Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency would do any good for the country.

“As a matter of urgency, I [Dormaahene] am appealing to the President of the Republic [Akufo-Addo], if he has any role to play, that trial should be aborted, and the Attorney-General should as a matter of urgency file a nolle prosequi to end that particular decision and abort the criminal case against Mr Quayson.

“Honestly, I don’t see the benefits this prosecution will bring Ghanaians. If he is in court, he can’t fulfil his mandate, so the president and the Attorney General should do something urgently to end this matter, so we move on as Ghanaians,” the Bono Regional House of Chiefs president added.
