A self-acclaimed Mallam and Spiritualist, John Afedzi, also known as AT, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour for inserting fingers into the genital of a 6-year-old girl.

Mr Afedzi, 25, also a commercial driver, was convicted Monday, July 3, 2023, after the District Magistrate Court in Twifo Praso, presided by Maxwell Ofori Kpodo ESQ, found him guilty of indecent assault.

He pleaded guilty simpliciter to the charge of indecent assault contrary to section 103 of the criminal and other offences (ACT 29) of 1960, following the explanation by the prosecution Detective Inspector Joshua Kusah.

According to the prosecution, the convict had lured the minor into his room at Ampreko Shed near Twifo Hemang in the Central region, where he engaged in the offensive act.

Mr Afedzi, after dressing up the victim, threw her out of the room.

The prosecutor added that a few days later, the victim started feeling pains and discomfort when passing her urine.

Thus, after her mother’s interrogation, the victim confirmed the convict had inserted his fingers in her genital, leading to the filing of a formal complaint and onward prosecution.

In delivering the judgement, Judge Maxwell Ofori Kpodo ESQ took into consideration the absolute remorse of the convict and the fact that he is a first-time offender, hence the 6-months sentence.

In addition, the convict will sign a 2-year bond of good behaviour.
