The Communications Director for the governing New Patriotic Party, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has indicated that persons who have not received the covid-19 jabs would not be permitted at the NPP Delegates Conference.

He noted that it is compulsory for all persons to get the jabs and show proof of vaccination before entry to serve as an example for other programmes lined up for the Christmas celebritions.

According to him, unvaccinated persons would be a threat to persons coming for the conference and that could be another platform for the coronavirus to spread thus increasing Ghana’s Covid-19 cases.

Ghana’s covid-19 cases currently stands at 131,840 with a death toll of 1,253 while the active cases are  927.

Speaking on Angel FM’s Anopa Bofoↄ morning show on Thursday, December 16, 2021, he stated that it is imperative that all persons coming for the conference get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

He also, disclosed that provisions have been made for those who may not be able to get vaccinated before coming.

He however, stressed that delegates and party faithfuls should not rely on that except that is a last resort.

Mr. Buaben Asamoa informed Kofi Adoma Nwanwani that in a bid to prevent a fourth wave, everyone on the grounds must be vaccinated because there are people coming from all walks of life including abroad, TESCON members and people from all the 16 regions.

In response to persons refusing the vaccine on grounds of human rights, the communications director replied that for purposes of public health safety, those rights can be over-ridden.

People’s freedoms of movement were restricted during the lock down so despite being entitled to your human rights, those rights can be overlooked in the interest of the safety of the masses, he said in Twi.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo in his 27th Covid-19 update urged Ghanaians to get vaccinated and also said that the vaccines are safe.

“The vaccines are safe. They will not harm you. They will protect you and your families,” he stated.

The president also debunked allegations that the vaccines would influence people’s voting patterns.

“Getting vaccinated will not cause you to vote for the NPP in the 2024 elections if you do not want to. This is an outrageous claim. Vaccination cannot change your political preference”, he declared.

Touching on the conference, Mr. Asamoa said that people have been designated to arrange for sleeping places, food as well as the cleaning and set up of the venue grounds – Heroes Park.

He added that the 38 proposals tabled would also be discussed at the conference and voted upon to be accepted or rejected.
