A communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ellen Ama Daaku has called on Ghanaians especially politicians to abstain from doing partisan politics with the discussion surrounding the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+).

Ama Daaku who was speaking on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, March 4, 2024, said people should separate politics from the matter and approach it with the seriousness it deserves.

“I don’t understand why we intend to do politics with issues of national concern. There are issues we don’t do politics with and this LGBTQ+ is one of them,” she told Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah.

In her view, though there must be awareness creation of the LGBTQ+ “devoid of NPP and NDC.”

According to her, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has the final say in the passage of the bill by assenting or not thus politicizing the subject should not be an option.

Madam Daaku also charged parents and guardians to play a watchdog role in the lives of their wards, particularly on their movements to prevent them from indulging in the immoral act since it is against Ghana’s culture.

Akwasi Addae Odike, a presidential hopeful for the 2024 election opposed the idea of broadcasting discussions around the LGBTQ+ on radio and national television.
