The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says the numerous challenges facing Ghana’s power sector needs a collective effort to address them.

Samuel Dubik Mahama warned that politicizing issues within the sector should be discouraged, as management of the ECG continues to seek a stable and reliable power supply for Ghanaians.

Speaking recently on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show (OBS), Mr. Mahama refuted claims that ongoing revenue mobilization exercise embarked by the ECG is targeted at some political faithful.

“With all due respect, I plead with Ghanaians to abstain from politicizing the issues of power. If we continue to do partisan politics with our power generation, the problems in the sector will be persistent,” he said as monitored by Angelonline.

Mr. Mahama stressed the need to pay utility bills to the company since it needs resources to pay debt owned by the Independence Power Producers (IPPs).

“As I speak now, we owe the Independence Power Producers (IPPs) who supply the country with power generation, such as the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Bui Power Authority, and others.

“So I emphasized, we shouldn’t use our electricity for politics,” he stated.

He added: “Sometimes when we embark on the revenue collection, you will encounter people threatening that they’ll not vote for the incumbent party.

“So if you don’t pay these bills now what time are you going to pay? What shows you will pay after the election?
