A special advisor and spokesperson for John Dramani Mahama, the president-elect of the Republic of Ghana, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has called on the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Adukwei Mensa to resign.
Speaking on Channel One 1 TV on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, she stated that the EC has so far shown that she is not competent enough for the position.
“I assumed the EC would step down due to her incompetence,” she said.
She believes it took the EC longer time to declare the presidential results because she had ulterior motive despite knowing that John Mahama has won the polls.
“Even though it was clear who had won, the EC took longer to announce the presidential results because she was up to a task,” she stated.
She blamed the EC for making simple errors that had damaged the ballot sheet cost.
“The EC is responsible for making elementary mistakes which has destroyed the cost of ballot sheets,” Joyce Bawah said.
She stated the EC chair, Jean Mensa, should have resigned immediately, saying ‘it is finished’.
“Immediately Jean Mensa said it is finished, it should have finished for her,” she stated.
Joyce Bawah highlighted that, every aspect of the EC needs to be fully reformed and included in the process of amending the constitution.
“Everything about the EC, needs a complete reform and completely form part of the constitution amendment process,” she highlighted.
According to her, the electoral commission should implement a reform that would eliminate all partisans. Jean Mensa should also leave because she has shown a lot of bias and prejudice against the NDC.
“The electoral commission ought a reform to delete all the partisans. Also, Jean Mensa should go because she has displayed numerous prejudice and bias against the NDC,” she noted.
