The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate Akwatia in the Eastern Region, Ernest Yaw Kumi, has been declared winner of the 2024 Parliamentary elections held on December 7, 2024.
‘Akwatia Star Boy’ as Ernest Yaw Kumi is known and called polled 19,279 of the valid votes cast to beat the incumbent NDC MP, Henry Yiadom Boakye who polled 17,206 votes. A total of 36,475 valid votes were cast with 294 being the number of votes rejected.
“Based on the results mentioned and on behalf of the chairperson, I declare Ernest Kumi as the MP elect…,” the Returning Officer for the polls said.
Mr Kumi lost the polls to Mr Boakye-Yiadom by 1,200 votes as some of the NPP supporters voted “skirt and blouse.”
