Residents of Abeka-Lapaz have expressed growing frustration over soaring rent prices, which they say are placing a severe strain on their finances and daily lives.

In interviews with Angel News reporter Comfort Aluisa, many residents shared their struggles, revealing that rising housing costs have pushed some to take loans just to keep a roof over their heads.

“Renting has become a major problem in my life. Finding money for rent is a struggle, and sometimes I have to take loans to pay. Meanwhile, my salary barely covers my living expenses,” one resident lamented, calling for government intervention to provide affordable housing.

Residents also highlighted the compounding challenges of balancing rent payments with other financial obligations, including school fees and utility bills. “After paying rent, we are left with little to cover other essential expenses. Even utility bills have become burdensome,” another resident said.

The community is urging the government to implement an affordable housing scheme to ease their burden and improve living conditions. They also appealed for measures to reduce utility costs, which they believe will alleviate the overall cost of living in the area.

The rising cost of rent in Accra has become a growing concern, with housing advocates calling for policies to address the situation and make housing more accessible for low to middle income earners.
