Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has defended the dismissal of some staff from his outfit, describing the move as an effort to cleanse the sector.

Addressing the media in Accra on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Minister noted that the action was part of the government’s efforts to maintain public trust by ensuring accountability and efficiency in the public sector.

He also mentioned that his decision was made in consultation with the World Bank office in Accra under the project implementation unit of the Acceleration Programme.

“When I took office, I took decisive action, in consultation with the World Bank office in Accra, to terminate the contracts of 13 staff under the project implementation unit of the World Bank-funded Ghana Digital Acceleration Programme.

“This became necessary to show our zero tolerance for any semblance of graft or corruption in the ministry. This termination was a patriotic action to save the state from any actions that could negatively affect our international image,” he said.

The Minister also emphasised that new recruitment within the sector would be conducted with due diligence to ensure that qualified candidates are selected, thereby maintaining professionalism.
