Hearts of Oak’s relevance no longer exists – Dong Bortey

Must Read

Accra Hearts of Oak legend, Bernard Dong Bortey, has voiced his disappointment over the current state of his former club, claiming that the once-feared Ghanaian giants have lost their relevance in modern football.

Speaking in an interview with Original TV, the former winger lamented the club’s decline from continental contenders to a struggling local side.

“Hearts of Oak has lost its relevance. During our time, the team was winning trophies, competing in Africa, and feared across the continent.

Now, things have changed drastically. The club is no longer winning trophies and has lost the dominance it once had,” he said.

Bortey, who was a pivotal figure in Hearts of Oak’s golden era, also expressed concern about the team’s ongoing inability to convert set-pieces into goals.

According to him, the absence of a consistent dead-ball specialist has been a longstanding issue.

“Since I left the club, there hasn’t been a consistent set-piece taker. You can see it clearly in the way the team struggles to convert from dead-ball situations.”

The retired footballer urged the club’s leadership to seek his assistance in addressing the issue.

“Hearts of Oak should seek my guidance to help resolve their set-piece problems,” Dong Bortey added.
