Must Read

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will track all imported excavators and introduce a new permit system to help combat illegal mining in the country.

Speaking during the Ghana Mining in Motion Summit at Kempinski in the Greater Accra Region on June 1, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama said his government will place restrictions on the importation of excavators into the country.

He explained that all excavators will be tracked to check whether they are being used for illegal mining or not.

He also stated that the government plans to change the permit system, noting that Ghana currently has more excavators than any other country in Africa.

“We will track excavators in order to know whether they are being used for illegal mining or not, and we will intend to change the permitting regime.”

“Ghana has more excavators in this country than in the whole of Africa.”

“You’ll not be allowed to import an excavator or put it on a ship unless you get a permit before you can ship an excavator.”
